VITA

Help your neighbors file their taxes this coming tax season

Become an IRS-certified tax preparer. No experience necessary. Training is free.

WHAT:

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) offers free tax services to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes.  This year VITA will be offered as a “VALET VITA” service, so there will be no face-to-face contact with clients.

WHY:

Countless taxpayers could be receiving EITC (Earned Income Tax Credits) and/or CTC (Child Tax Credits) if they had assistance filing their returns.  Also, clients will receive VITA assistance free of charge, which provides them added cash for essentials.

HOW:

Volunteers will be able to access free on-line IRS training and certification from home by registering for a series of four Virtual VITA Certification Prep Sessions.  There are several sessions of virtual trainings to choose from – morning, afternoon or evening – beginning Monday, November 23rd, 2020 through January.

WHEN:

Certified volunteers will need to commit to between 4 and 8 hours per week from January through April 2021 at the United Way Center in Vero Beach.   COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place.  VITA resources and technical support will always be available.

WHO:

Volunteers of all backgrounds are welcome, however, Spanish/English bilingual preparers, retirees, students and those with financial backgrounds are highly encouraged to participate.  Eligible volunteers will be able to claim CE credits.
