Players came to play pickleball, but they were part of something bigger. United Way of Indian River County hosted its Third Annual St. Paddle’s Day Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Dick Bird Park, bringing together community members for a lively day of friendly competition and connection. Every registration, rally, and point scored helped support programs that strengthen and improve the quality of life across Indian River County.

The tournament brought together 27 teams to compete across multiple divisions. Division winners included Blake and Owen Bruckner in the Mixed Amateur Division, Mike Lombardo and Duke Colton in the Men’s Advanced Division, Will Wilmot and Catherine Oess in the Mixed Advanced Division, and Rachelle Dermody and Tina Clark in the Women’s Advanced Division.

One of the day’s most memorable moments came from when Blake and Owen Bruckner faced off against their father, Nate Bruckner, and his partner Curtis Carpenter, creating a fun family rivalry on the courts. Nate is a staff member at United Way of Indian River County, while Curtis serves on the organization’s Board of Directors.

Returning players Bryan Redden and Samuel McCoy also made a strong showing. The pair captured first place in the Men’s Fun Division in last year’s tournament and returned this year to compete in the Men’s Advanced Division, where they finished second.

“This tournament highlights the incredible spirit and generosity of our community,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County. “From players and volunteers to our sponsors, everyone came together to make a meaningful impact while enjoying a day of fun and connection.”

The event was made possible thanks to the support of Presenting Sponsor Publix Super Market and Award Sponsor Bread & Butter Pickleball. Additional support came from Ace Sponsors Schlitt Services and Complete Trust Insurance, Court Sponsors, Law Offices of Jennifer D. Peshke, Level Accounting, Vero Beach Social Media, and DogWatch Hidden Fence, as well as in-kind contributions from The Sunshine Pickle Co. and Imperial Imprinting.

Volunteers helped create a welcoming and well-organized experience for participants and spectators alike. All proceeds from the tournament support United Way of Indian River County’s work to improve health, education, and financial stability for individuals and families across the community.
