United Way of Indian River County recently held an impactful event titled “Meet the Funders,” part of its Powered by Purpose series. The gathering brought together an array of funders and nonprofit professionals to discuss critical resources available for local organizations dedicated to fostering positive change in the community.
Meredith Egan, United Way’s Chief Executive Officer, opened the session with heartfelt remarks, acknowledging recent hurricane recovery efforts and the crucial role played by both funders and nonprofits in responding to the needs of the community. “This session was about bringing together those who give with those who serve, creating an atmosphere where collaboration can truly thrive,” she stated. “We are committed to bridging gaps in resources, identifying funding priorities, and harnessing our community’s generosity to improve lives.”
Held at Northern Trust, the “Meet the Funders” session kicked off the first of four events in the Powered by Purpose series. This series aims to connect nonprofit professionals with leading experts and community influencers, offering valuable insights on funding, resource allocation, and collaborative potential. Each installment will cover a specific topic of relevance, designed to provide nonprofits with tools, knowledge, and connections to better serve Indian River County.
The event featured a distinguished lineup of funders, representing a collective commitment of over $20 million in financial support for local nonprofits. Funders such as Grand Harbor Community Outreach, Inc., Impact 100, Indian River County Hospital District, Indian River Club’s Head, Heart, and Hands program, Indian River Community Foundation, Indian River County’s Children’s Services Advisory Council, John’s Island Community Service League, John’s Island Foundation, and Quail Valley Charities presented their funding criteria, timelines, and application processes. Additionally, United Way provided an overview of its own grant programs.
Following the presentations, attendees engaged in focused group discussions with each funder, gaining insights into funding processes, eligibility requirements, and areas of priority. This personalized approach allowed nonprofit representatives from organizations like Vero Beach Rowing, Salvation Army, Literacy Services, Childcare Resources, and Big Brothers Big Sisters to ask questions, gather information, and establish meaningful connections that will support their future funding applications.
United Way’s Deana Shatley highlighted United Way’s funding opportunities and acknowledged Northern Trust’s generous sponsorship of the series, noting how such support strengthens the nonprofit sector’s ability to serve those most in need.
The event was attended by over 30 nonprofit organizations, all dedicated to improving community health, education, and financial stability. These organizations, ranging from grassroots initiatives to established institutions, left with renewed optimism and access to resources essential for sustaining and expanding their services.
United Way extends its deepest gratitude to the funders and community leaders who contributed to the success of this event. The next session in the Powered By Purpose series will continue to build on this momentum, empowering nonprofits with tools and knowledge to make a lasting impact in Indian River County.
