United Way of Indian River County brought together local funders and nonprofit professionals for an informational session on grant opportunities for nonprofits serving our community.
The Powered by Purpose series features community leaders and experts speaking about different topics of interest to help attendees learn more about an issue, community challenges, collaboration, resources, and other ways to get involved.
The first of four in the series, hosted at Northern Trust, was Meet the Funders. The event allowed grantmakers to communicate to potential grantees what information is essential to them as a funding organization and for nonprofits to identify funding opportunities that align with their missions and the populations they serve.
“We thought it would be helpful to bring everyone together for an exchange of ideas,” stated CEO Meredith Egan. “Our goal is to bridge needs with incredible wealth and generosity in our community to help invest resources where they are of the highest and best use to improve the quality of life for everyone in Indian River.”
The funders in the room represented over $20 million in support for local organizations as both public and private supporters, including Grand Harbor Community Outreach, Inc., Hospital District, Impact 100, Indian River Club Head Heart and Hands, Indian River Community Foundation, Indian River County’s Children’s Services Advisory Council, John’s Island Community Service League, Johns Island Foundation, and Quail Valley Charities.
Following each funder’s presentations, attendees could visit with each one to ask specific questions about eligibility. As a result, funders also strengthened their connection with local nonprofit issues and community needs to maximize their charitable giving.
