United Way’s 2020 Day of Caring Presents Month with a Mission

United Way of Indian River County is encouraging community members to spread kindness – safely, with social distancing – for this year’s Day of Caring.

United Way’s annual Day of Caring service event has been reimagined due to COVID-19. Traditionally, volunteers from Indian River County gather together to complete projects hosted by community partners. This year, to ensure the safety of volunteers and United Way’s partners, Day of Caring participants will have the opportunity to take part in Month with a Mission.

Throughout October, individuals are encouraged to join United Way to make Indian River County a better community for all. Each week will coincide with an impact area – Health, Education, and Financial Stability, with the final week celebrating community pride. Every day, there will be a new project or act of kindness that can be successfully executed while social distancing. Projects include beautifying our neighborhood by picking up and properly disposing of trash, run the UWIRC 5K (with customizable bibbs), have a virtual dance party, or bake a sweet treat for a loved one.

Also, United Way will be hosting a Chalk Your Walk sidewalk chalk competition. The winning design will be printed on a limited edition LIVE UNITED t-shirt. All proceeds will directly benefit the UWIRC annual campaign. Photos must be uploaded to social media using #ChalkYourWalkIRC or #UnitedIRC by Monday, October 18, 2020 to be considered for voting. Voting ends on Sunday, October 25, 2020.

“Although we are unable to carry out Day of Caring this year, we’re really excited to still be able to bring people together and spread some acts of kindness in our community,” said Sydney Mihailoff, Campaign Associate at UWIRC. “Everyone needs some positivity in their life right now and we’re happy to mobilize our philanthropic community to give back and have some fun!”

Last year marked the 25th annual Day of Caring which saw over 1,200 volunteers who joined together to complete 67 projects.

Although things look different this year, Day of Caring’s mission remains the same in 2020: to help volunteers give back to Indian River County.
