United Way of Indian River County (UWIRC) is looking for passionate and community-minded volunteers to serve on one of several Citizens’ Review Panels. This annual review of funding requests is open to Indian River County residents who want to help evaluate local programs.

Local volunteers make 100% of UWIRC funding decisions. Every year, volunteers are recruited to serve on panels that review grant applications, conduct site visits, and assess the programming of organizations seeking funding from United Way. Citizens’ Review Panel evaluations and recommendations are then presented to United Way’s all-volunteer Board of Directors to guide funding decisions for the programs and services impacting UWIRC’s targeted areas: health, education, and financial stability. By serving on a Citizens’ Review Panel, volunteers help direct local donor funds to address the community’s most pressing needs.

United Way supports programs that create meaningful change within the community, providing services to vulnerable individuals and neighborhoods. UWIRC’s partner organizations must meet stringent eligibility criteria and report on program metrics semi-annually. This ensures the highest financial transparency and accountability for all agencies receiving United Way funds, while meeting the vital social service needs of Indian River County residents. Grant funding is allocated on a two-year cycle, and agencies must reapply each cycle.

“Thanks to our panelists and their careful review of each funding request, local organizations are held to the highest standards,” said Jamie Bell and Cynthia Scott, Co-Chairs of United Way’s Citizens’ Review Process. “This ensures that every dollar given to United Way stays local, reaches the people who need it most, and creates a real impact in our community.”

Participating volunteers will have the opportunity to collaborate with other community leaders, service providers, and dedicated volunteers. Orientation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Volunteer registration is required before orientation, with an expected commitment of 10-15 hours over the month of April to complete the Citizens’ Review Process.

Volunteer applications can be found online at UnitedWayIRC.org/CRP. For more information about how you can join the Citizens’ Review Process, please contact Deana Shatley at (772) 567-8900, ext. 114 or gro.CRIyaWdetinU@yeltahS.anaeD.
