Annual Event Honors Jackie Robinson’s Legacy and Unites the Community

After several years, this cherished tradition returns to Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, which is Jackie Robinson Day throughout Major League Baseball. The Clearwater Threshers and the Palm Beach Cardinals will face off, bringing exciting action to fans on the Treasure Coast. The event, hosted by United Way of Indian River County in
partnership with Major League Baseball and the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, celebrates Robinson’s groundbreaking impact, unites the community, and raises funds to support vital programs and services in Indian River County.

Gates will open at 5:00 PM, with an opening ceremony scheduled for 6:00 PM, and the first pitch at precisely 6:42 PM. Tickets are available now at UnitedWayIRC.org. Advance tickets are $10 through March 31, 2025, and will increase to $12 starting April 1. On game day, tickets can be purchased for $15 at the gate, credit card only. Children aged 3 and under receive free admission. Seating is first-come, first-served. All proceeds benefit United Way, helping to fund essential programs and services that improve lives throughout Indian River County.

“We’re thrilled to bring this incredible event back to Indian River County,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County. “Jackie Robinson reminds us of the importance of unity, progress, and community. United is the Way, and we are honored to partner with Major League Baseball and the Jackie Robinson Training Complex to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

The Jackie Robinson Celebration Game began in 2014 as an annual tradition honoring Robinson’s impact on sports and society. Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball on April 15, 1947, when he debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Holman Stadium, part of the historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex, holds special significance in Jackie’s legacy, as it was an integrated Spring Training facility in the South. The first official Spring Training Game at Holman Stadium was played on March 31, 1948, a game in which Jackie played.

“This event is a testament to the power of sports to inspire connection and shared purpose,” said Rachelle Madrigal, Vice President of the Jackie Robinson Training Complex. “Holman Stadium stands as a beacon of baseball’s rich history, and hosting this celebration allows us to honor Jackie Robinson’s profound impact on both the game and society while supporting a cause that uplifts lives.”

Volunteers are vital to the success of this event, and opportunities are available for parking attendants, gate attendants, raffle sales crew, crowd management, and the flexible support team. All volunteers must sign a liability waiver, attend a mandatory training session, and be prepared to stand for the duration of their shift. Shifts will begin at 4:00 PM on game day, and high school students are encouraged to sign up. Those interested in volunteering can click here for more information or contact Amanda Morgan, Community Impact Coordinator at (772) 567-8900, ext. 120.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and organizations looking to make a meaningful impact. United Way extends its heartfelt gratitude to our Presenting Sponsors, Morgan Petersen Wealth Management Merrill Lynch and Shambo, Schwibner, Schwartz Wealth Management Group Merrill Lynch, for their generous support of this cherished community event. We also sincerely thank our Home Run Sponsor, Route 60 Hyundai, and Triple Sponsor, AYS Employee Leasing, for their commitment to making this celebration possible. To learn more about sponsorships, contact Meredith Egan at (772) 567-8900, ext. 125.

The evening will include concessions and food trucks offering a variety of food and drinks. This event promises to be a must-attend for Treasure Coast baseball fans and supporters of United Way’s mission to improve lives. Don’t miss this unforgettable night at Holman Stadium as we honor Jackie Robinson’s legacy and come together as a community.
