The annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game returned to Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, honoring the legacy of Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier on April 15, now recognized each year across MLB as Jackie Robinson Day.

The evening featured a competitive matchup as the Palm Beach Frozen Iguanas defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads, 4-2, in front of a strong community turnout.

The Palm Beach Cardinals, Class-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, played as the Frozen Iguanas as part of a special 2026 promotional series celebrating their South Florida roots. Fans experienced unique branding, merchandise, and a festive ballpark atmosphere throughout the evening.

Presented by the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Groups of Shambo, Schwibner, Schwartz, and Morgan Petersen Rinchack, the event saw nearly 3,000 fans in the stadium. The proceeds support United Way of Indian River County’s 48 local partner programs focused on health, education, and financial stability, serving approximately one in four residents across Indian River County.

“Jackie Robinson’s legacy is about courage, breaking barriers, and creating opportunity, and that spirit was present throughout the entire evening,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County. “We are grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, and community members who continue to make this impact possible year after year.”

Curtis Carpenter, United Way board member and event chair, added:

“Jackie Robinson Day has become a meaningful tradition for my family and our community,” said Curtis Carpenter. “Thank you to United Way of Indian River County and the Jackie Robinson Training Complex for an incredible event. The game was outstanding, but what stood out most was the strength of this community and everyone who came out to support.”

Pregame festivities included a live broadcast and photo booth experience from MARC Radio Treasure Coast, a dignitary salute, and a National Anthem performed by Indian River Charter High School student Adrianna Knopp. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Peyton Cooper, Vero Beach High School student and Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County’s 2026 Youth of the Year.

The evening also included a special recognition of Felice Bagley, Principal of Dodgertown Elementary School, honoring her selection as a finalist for Florida Principal of the Year.

A moment of silence was held in remembrance of Freddie Woolfork, a beloved Gifford community leader known as “Mr. GYAC,” followed by a military salute honoring service members. Youth athletes participated in an on-field parade, adding to the community-centered celebration. Concessions and food trucks were available throughout adding to a classic night at the ballpark.

United Way extends its gratitude to Presenting Sponsors, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Groups of Shambo, Schwibner, Schwartz, and Morgan Petersen Rinchack, Triple Sponsor AYS Employee Leasing, MVP Sponsor, Lowndes Law, ABC Printing for providing the beautiful and commemorative programs. Additional thanks to our All Star Sponsors, Florida Power & Light Company, Play Treasure Coast, Route 60 Hyundai, Seacoast Bank,  Short Stop Sponsors, Panacea Eye Center, Piper Aircraft, Southern Eagle Distributing, Waste Management, and to all volunteers and partners who helped make the event possible.
