36th Annual Citrus Golf Tournament Raises Funds for United Way

On September 19th, the United Way of Indian River County hosted their 36th Annual Citrus Golf Tournament on the fairways at Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club. The weather was beautiful, and the rain stayed at bay. Twenty-six teams of four came out to raise money for the programs and services supported by United Way.

The event, co-chaired by Martin Bierely, The Beach Shop, and Rusty Banack, Countryside Citrus, gathered approximately 100 community members, business leaders, volunteers, and supporters.

“When you get so many community people out on a beautiful course for a great cause, you’re bound to have a good time,” said Rusty Banack

The event’s continued success is many thanks to its generous supporters. With Platinum Sponsor, JBT Food Tech, Gold Sponsor Bernard Egan Foundation, Silver Sponsor Syngenta Crop Protection, and Golf Ball Sponsor Perfect Stix. In addition, Bronze sponsors for the event included CED Vero, Complete Electric, Inc., George E. Warren, IRSC Foundation, Inc., Jeremiah’s Italian Ice of Vero Beach, Nelson Morgan Fessler Petersen Wealth Management – Merrill Lynch, Northern Trust, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Rehmann, Schlitt Services, SouthState Bank, TC Enterprises of the Treasure Coast, and the Hill Group. “This year’s event was a phenomenal success,” said Sydney Mihailoff, Relationship Development Manager. “Indian River County really takes care of their own and steps up to support the place we all call home.”

Thirty-six years ago, this tournament was a way for citrus and agricultural businesses to get involved with United Way.

Top prizes included a two-night stay at Costa d’Este, a kayak or paddle board rental at Paddles by the Sea, and cigars from Smoke Inn Vero Beach.

The tournament began with a lunch and ended with a dinner reception and awards ceremony at the Grand Harbor Clubhouse.
